Irish lilt mixed with the attitude of early UK punk rock was what initially fueled the The Pogues. Fronted by the (in)famous Shane MacGowan, The Pogues lifted traditional Irish music out of the gutter of its past injecting it with a strong dose of piss and lager.
Originally released in 1987, If I Should Fall from Grace With God was the band’s calling card, and breakthrough to mainstream audiences, anchored by the crossover Christmas ballad “Fairytale of New York.” MacGowan’s writing and the band are in top form here, swimming in cigarettes and Guinness.

ANTI Records has just reissued the last three Neko Case studio LPs; Furnace Room Lullaby (2000), Blacklisted (2002), and Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (2006). In light of Fox Confessor’s increased Sound Scan numbers, the new version of the LP will come with a five track bonus disc comprised of a demo (see below) and two tracks each off of the album’s two predecessors. This is ostensibly an appeal to draw in new fans who may not be aware of Case’s, quality, back catalog. If this move works, I would not be surprised to see it done with other crossover artists, e.g. Cat Power’s The Greatest.
